After the storm this winter, cat toys, beach chairs, cones and other strange objects will once again decorate Boston's parking spaces.

City officials said on Monday that they will again allow space to be saved in most communities in response to major storms.

The space saver can be used during the declared snow emergency and for up to 48 hours after the emergency ends. After 48 hours, the city can remove any remaining space savers.

The use of space savers is prohibited at the southern end.

Mayor Wu Shanshan and other city officials also announced on Monday that Boston has added 18 new winter equipment for the season, for a total of 164 internal equipment. More than 800 pieces of equipment can be assembled to deal with greater storms.

About 40,000 tons of road salt in Boston are ready to be used this season.
